Publications

During my career as an Electronics Engineer, I have written many technical articles, application notes, PowerPoint presentations and so on. You can see examples of this in the “Laplace” and “Thermal Analysis” sections of this website under "Examples of my work". I have always enjoyed the challenge of presenting ideas in a clear, concise and readable manner, whilst often working within the restraints of a limited word-count (in the case of magazine articles) or presentation time (for conference papers, customer presentations and so on). In addition, the task of “pitching” a publication at the right level and understanding the intended audience’s expectations and level of existing knowledge is also a challenge which I very much enjoy. Hopefully on most occasions I managed to get it right!

On this page I would like to present a few examples of my written work, spanning the nearly two decades of my time as a Senior Engineer at NXP Semiconductors.

The first of these examples are scanned pdf copies of magazine articles, admittedly now very old, which appeared in three trade journals and are available via these buttons:

A little more up-to-date, and reflecting the general trend away from paper and towards on-line content, links to two technical blogs – the first as guest contributor and the second as sole author:

“ A Little Goes A Long Way (But A Lot Doesn’t Go Much Further)” (guest blog post). Mentor Graphics 2012.

The “Accidental Thermal Engineer” series of blog posts, NXP Semiconductors, June 2015 onwards.

Finally, links to three Application Notes. The first two of which are about thermal design and the third a distillation of some of the work shown on the “Laplace” page of this website:

“AN10874 - LFPAK MOSFET thermal design guide” (Application Note). NXP Semiconductors 2009.

“AN11113 - LFPAK MOSFET thermal design guide - Part 2” (Application Note). NXP Semiconductors 2011.

“AN11160 – Designing RC Snubbers” (Application Note). NXP Semiconductors 2012.
